When it comes to changing up your look for Fall, one of the easiest ways to change your beauty game is trying a new lipstick. This season, the biggest trend in lip color is to up the vamp factor. Dark, moody and romantic lips are all the rage and I have a few of my favorites to share with you – both affordable and covetable. You’re probably wondering, how do I even wear this trend? Dark lips can quickly become a little scary and tricky to wear.
What I recommend, is first decide how dark you really want to go. You need keep in mind that the darker the color, the more makeup you will have to wear. The more flawless your base, the more pulled together the look becomes.
I also recommend going lighter on the eye makeup (neutral basics work best) and having well-groomed eyebrows can most definitely, up the final wow factor.
With all the new launches and the arrival liquid lipsticks, you now have the choice of picking the texture you prefer. If you choose a regular cream base lipstick, the more comfortable the lipstick will wear. If longevity and coverage are important to you, a liquid lip might be the way go. Either way, I have some great suggestions in the same color family.

Cream Matte Lipstick
The shade I’ve kept in my collection year after year is MAC Cosmetics “Sin”. It’s the perfect deep, brown-burgundy shade and has the classic, retro matte finish that MAC is renowned for. This matte formula is my all-time favorite in a cream based lipstick. I can wear this formula all day and it will not move or feather out the lip line. A new discovery this season is the Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Collection. This color is the perfect way to get into this trend. The formula is very creamy and can be applied softly for a wash of violet or full on, straight from the bullet for full impact color.
To create the precision this look craves, you will need the perfect lipliner. The one I can recommend to anyone, is MAC Cosmectics lipliner in “Nightmoth”. This liner is now the go-to for many influencers and bloggers and for good reason. The color is a blackened violet and complements all skin tones and eye color.
Liquid Lipstick
For those who are shy to try the dark side, I have found the perfect deep red for the season. Nyx Cosmetics Liquid Suede Lipstick in “Cherry Skies” is a gorgeous long wearing, deep red. This is a different type of liquid lipstick where it truly stays a slight bit tacky on the lips and is not transfer proof. I recommend applying a light, thin layer first, then applying a second coat to deepen the color on the lips. I also really like the shape of the wand applicator. I have been able to apply this color sans lipliner and still get perfect precision in application.
My next pick might be a bit controversial. Whether you love or hate her, you have to admit that Kylie Jenner knows a thing or two about the lip game. I happen to be a happy customer of hers and have many of her Lipkits. When I saw she was launching a Black shade; I just had to get my hands on it. The shade, “Dead of Night” is a Lipkit; complete with a liquid lipstick and matching lipliner.
This is a full coverage, opaque black shade that glides over the lips seamlessly. Because there are no room for mistakes with black lipstick, I suggest using your lipliner first and fill in the whole lip. Then apply 1 coat of lipstick after achieving the perfect shape.
As I’m sure you can see, I’m more than a fan of this trend and plan on rocking it everywhere this Fall/Winter season. My inner Goth is a happy camper!
