Undoubtedly, one of our favourite beauty trends is the classic, black smokey eye. It’s a timeless makeup look that defines the eyes, creating a sultry and sophisticated look. After blending a selection of eyeshadow shades ranging from light to dark, a beautiful, seamless, smokey look is created. If you want to learn How to Create the Perfect Smokey Eye, below is our seven-step guide.
Step 1 – Apply an Eyeshadow Primer
The first step to any eyeshadow look is priming the eyelids with an eyeshadow primer. Lately, we’ve been loving Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion as it prevents the eyelids from getting oily, ensuring that your eyeshadow lasts all day.
Step 2 – Grab Your Go-To Eyeshadow Palette
After your eyelids have been prepped and primed, it’s time to grab your go-to eyeshadow palette. We suggest going for a palette that has a good selection of neutral shades, ranging from light to dark. For beginners, we highly recommend Urban Decay’s Naked2 Basics Eyeshadow Palette, as it has every shade you will need for a classic smokey eye.
Step 3 – Apply a Base Shade
Next, apply a base shade all over the eyelid. This shade should be close to your natural skin tone.
Step 4 – Apply a Transition Colour to the Crease
Grabbing a neutral brown colour on a fluffy eyeshadow brush, apply the shadow to the crease and blend seamlessly. This acts as our transition shade, allowing for a natural gradient of tones.
Step 5 – Apply a Medium-Brown Shade All Over The Eyelid
Using a medium-brown shade, apply all over the eyelid using an all-over shadow brush. Blend any harsh edges using a separate, fluffy brush.
Step 6 – Layer a Black Eyeshadow to the Outer Corners and Along the Lash Line
Using a dense eyeshadow brush, layer a black eyeshadow to the outer corners of the eyelid as well as along the lash line. To avoid any harsh lines, continue blending with a clean, fluffy brush.
Step 7 – Add Final Touches… and You’re Ready To Go!
To finish off the look, add any finishing touches whether that be applying some false lashes, black eyeliner, etc. After this, you’ve got your perfect smokey eye!
