This summer STYLE Canada checked-in to the Residence Inn by Marriott Calgary Downtown/Beltline District for a getaway in the heart of the city. We had the opportunity to get the story behind all the hotels details from Area Director, Tim Ostrem. Tim and his team have thought of EVERYTHING to make your stay here truly a unique one. On top of this, Atlific Hotels manages Residence in by Marriott Calgary Downtown. Read on for the full experience below.
The Vibe
Lace up your boots, grab your cowboy hat, and head on down to the Residence Inn by Marriott Calgary, for a relaxing stay in downtown Calgary. The hotel, if you haven’t yet guessed, pays homage to its cowboy roots, as it’s built on the site of the historic Alberta Boot Company. This wasn’t your average Residence Inn! Walking into the hotel you are met with contemporary musings and local art. What we love most about this hotel is how strongly connected they are to their community. Their ‘Artist Inn Residence Inn’, program is quite unique where local artists have a chance to ‘live’ in the hotel and utilize its spaces for their craft. From visual art to performance art, any hotel that emphasizes the artistic community is a favourite in our books. We got to meet with some of their creators on site and watch their vision come to life. This year the hotel received a Green Key Eco-Rating Program to showcase their commitment to improving their environmental impact on the city. Not surprising, as they literally have a rooftop “Bees in Residence.” One of their sustainability initiatives, where they help to increase the local bee population.
The Neighbourhood
Located in the vibrant Beltline District, the hotel is within walking distance of all of the attractions that downtown Calgary has to offer. From the Calgary Tower to the Scotiabank Saddledome. One of our favourite restaurants in the city, Bridgette Bar is located steps away which didn’t hurt either. Fun fact the Beltline District is the fastest growing home to local-famous chef experiences, boutique cafes, craft beer spots, and is the spot for tech and design firms to set up their basecamp. The District has added vibrancy back into the city of Calgary.
The Room
Space in a hotel room is a luxury, especially in a major city. What we love most about the Residence Inn is how spacious the suites are, and the amenities that come along with that added space. The contemporary room designs are home to fully-equipped kitchens, floor-to-ceiling windows for an epic view of the city, and each suite has a separate living space for relaxing with your crew. Rest your heads on the most comfortable pillows, or lounge on the sofa and gaze out at the view as you await your complimentary grocery delivery service to make your favourite meal tonight.
The Extras
A few extra goodies are always included in a lovely hotel like this. Lace up your kicks for a morning in the gym, head to the on-site laundry room to wash your favourite jeans for a dinner out, and enjoy a complimentary breakfast. Stroll through the hotel to check out what art installations are being featured during your stay or head to the rooftop to take in the city views. A few packages the hotel currently has are a ‘Stay and Play Romance Package’ which includes 1 bottle of sparkling wine, $100 CAD spa credit with late check-out, and a Calgary Zoo Escape package which includes 4 tickets for 2 adults/2 children while staying at the hotel.
