Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m Carly, designer and owner of Paperscript, I am a local to Niagara, Ontario, a happy wife, mom of two young daughters, I believe In beautiful handwriting, and celebrating the everyday. Paperscript was born at a difficult time in my life when I turned to art as a form of therapy. This outlet felt natural as I spent my childhood being drawn to create. I work to create products that inspire people to go back to basics through the simple act of sending a card.

Share the story behind your brand.

At Paperscript, it’s all about heart. My goal is to encourage offline connections through the simplicity of paper. It all started with a watercolour kit from the dollarstore and a bit of courage to post my work online. Years later, I now offer an affordable and beautiful collection of Canadian-made paper goods while prioritizing community and social impact. I wholeheartedly believe that paper can evoke a feeling and it should be shared with the people that matter the most to you.

Community, Connection and Giving Back are some of the main pillars of what we do at Paperscript. We are so passionate about helping others, and have made it a priority to support causes close to our heart as much as we can.

What inspires you?

I often design based on a feeling, colour, or pattern. When I am putting together a collection, I am constantly thinking about how the card would look on a gift, what type of messages it would carry and who would be sending the cards. I am forever drawn to black and white and classic designs like stripes, polka dots, and simple accents. Paperscript products are intended to feel simple and easy, your go-to cards for anyone and everyone. Paper has the ability to turn memories into keepsakes and become a tangible reminder of how those moments felt.

Where’s your favourite summer vacation spot?

I have a bucket list of trips I’d like to take, but right now I would be so happy sitting on a beach somewhere, while my kids play in the sand. We are planning some summer camping and possibly a few weeks in Montreal with the family and I am so looking forward to some down time and sunnier days.

What can we expect from your brand in 2024?

I just released my largest collection in years, including over 45 brand new cards. I focused on the “everyday” and more typical occasions that you’d need a card for. This year I will also be doing many more in person events and refocusing on my community and connecting face to face with customers.  I love to meet new people and share stories…there is something intimate about attending small shoppable events and I am so excited to be part of so many this year.

Later this year, I will be announcing my 4th annual ‘Cards that Give Back’ campaign where I use greeting cards and the impact of connection to raise awareness and funds for charities that are close to my heart. Community, connection and giving back are some of the main pillars of what we do at Paperscript. I am passionate about helping others and have made it a priority to support important causes as much as I can.
