When it comes to Art Basel Miami, it is all about the art…and parties. Art Basel Miami is celebrating its 20th year! Here is a list of our top 6 must-visit fairs, satellite fairs, and venues from 1st to the 3rd of December:
1. ART BASEL & DESIGN MIAMI
Art Basel Miami held at the Miami Beach Convention Center will be featuring 254 galleries from 36 different countries. This is the main fair and I would recommend setting aside an afternoon to explore what this year has to offer.
Design Miami is located steps away from the main fair at Convention Center Drive and 19th Street. It is the “global authority for collectible design” featuring contemporary furniture, ceramics, lighting, and objects for the home. Every year is an absolute must-see for anyone that is a fan of interiors.
2. Greater Miami and Miami Beach’s Art of Black
Last year, the tourism board expanded the platform with the introduction of the Art of Black Miami Podcast Series offering a space for Miami-based artists to lead engaging conversations about how their style of work is represented and influenced by Miamiʼs diverse cultural landscape and neighborhoods.
This year’s Art of Black Miami line-up of events continues to raise the bar for the program, featuring artists from across the United States, the Caribbean, Latin America and around the world, featuring curated exhibitions, performances, artists’ talks, films, pop-up events, and mural unveilings. 3. ART MIAMI & CONTEXT ART MIAMI
Described as, “America’s foremost contemporary and modern art fair” will be featuring work from the 20th and 21st centuries. “Art Miami 2022 will feature investment quality paintings, drawings, design, sculpture, NFTs, video art, photography and prints from more than 160 leading galleries across 17 countries” located at 1 Herald Plaza, Miami, FL 33132. Its sister fair CONTEXT Art Miami (at the same location) focuses on showcasing, “emerging, mid-career and cutting-edge artists [while continuing] to develop and push boundaries on the conversation about contemporary art.” The combination of visiting both Art Miami and CONTEXT allow you to see both groundbreaking and emerging art.
4. NADA
The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is, “dedicated to the cultivation, support, and advancement of new voices in contemporary art.” Along with its talks and performances NADA features, “a diverse selection of 146 galleries, art spaces, and nonprofit organizations spanning over 40 cities around the globe.” Located at Ice Palace Studios, 1400 North Miami Avenue, I highly recommend NADA to see pieces and performances from emerging and current voices in art.
5. SCOPE
With views of the ocean from its unique pavilion, Scope Miami Beach located at Ocean Drive at 8th Street is focusing on its, “perpetual mission to provide a platform for experiential innovation and discovery.” Scopes larger than life installations matched with its space and views make it a very memorable experience.
6. FAENA HOTEL
If you haven’t already seen Damien Hirst’s “Gone but Not Forgotten” golden woolly mammoth piece at Faena Hotel Miami Beach, 3201 Collins Ave, that is enough of a reason to go. In addition, Faena always displays temporary installations on the beach during Art Basel Miami. With last year’s captivating immersive digital installation Machine Hallucination: Coral by Refik Anadol, I cannot wait to see what Faena has to offer this year. Find a friend with a Soho House Membership and walk down the street to have a classic Miami Beach evening following Faena.
