Incorporating wellness into your life goes beyond self-care (although it may look like that from time to time). It’s about an identity where your well-being is your top priority. That in itself can be a confronting statement, it can feel selfish or self-absorbed. The irony is that this approach is the opposite, because when you make well-being your top priority, everyone around you benefits, from your closest relationships to your colleagues to your community. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and this type of identity is about taking care of yourself so that you can pour into others.
Your world and how you operate right now are not set up to prioritize well-being. So it’s vital to set it up by getting clarity on what you are available for and what you are not.
Clarity of Vision
What does “my well-being is my top priority” look like for you? It’s a vague statement, so be specific about what works for you. You’re creating that version of you to step into. So, how does that version of you spend their days? Who do they interact with? What time do they wake up, and what time do they go to bed? Be crystal clear on who that person is and how they show up. Then pick one of those traits and start embodying it. Continue doing so, adding more of your vision to your day-to-day life.

Boundaries
Take a look at your calendar for the month: are there things that you have said YES to out of guilt, history (you have done it for a while, so you keep doing it), or that drain you? From the perspective of “my well-being is my top priority”, what things from your calendar would you remove? What are old habits or activities that are keeping you from your best? You’ll find that this work is not about adding things, it is about removing things. Addition by subtraction!
Communication
As you decide what you are available for and what you’re not available for, it is important to have a conversation with those who may be impacted by your vision and decisions. Some may support your vision, while others may not understand this shift for you. Either way, sharing this with others is important in your well-being journey. Make time to have these conversations. Remind yourself and others why this is a positive thing.
