It’s National Love Your Pet Day, and we got to chat with —Bacon, a 7-year-old miniature schnauzer, and his owner, Tiana, the creative force behind The Bacon Collection! From Instagram fame to launching a stylish pet fashion brand, their journey is all about confidence, creativity, and, most importantly, love. We chatted about Bacon’s rise as a doggy fashion influencer, the inspiration behind his custom designs, and how pet owners can make their furry friends feel their best!
Tell me about yourself and Bacon!
Bacon is a 7-year-old miniature schnauzer and we’re from Toronto. We love travelling and exploring the city together and showcasing that on his Instagram account @baconthedoggers.
How did Bacon become a Doggy Fashion Influencer?
From the moment I put on his first sweater, he was super confident in it. Our family dog Teddy would turn into a statue the moment he wore clothes, but on Bacon it was different. He felt confident in his outfits from day 1. He also had an Instagram account since the day we got him and we shared his entire life on there. As a schnauzer he’s always full of personality and that gets captured too. As he grew up, he became better at posing so we started taking photos where his outfits always complimented the backdrops. We would buy and work with brands from all over the world so he became a bit of a doggy fashion encyclopedia.
What inspired you to launch The Bacon Collection?
While everyone else was learning how to bake bread in March of 2020, I decided to buy my very first sewing machine and learn how to sew. I always wanted to learn how to make clothes for Bacon that humans would wish they could wear. Though we’re based in Toronto, Bacon had a huge following from California and New York and that’s where a lot of our customers are from.
How do you ensure that your designs are both stylish and comfortable for pets?
Our looks are designed so that they can be worn out on a walk and not just the runway. Nothing is too long that they would trip over it.
What advice would you give to pet owners looking to dress their pets?
Dress them in whatever makes them the most confident. Confidence is what makes dogs the most adorable. That may be clothes or it could just be a simple collar.
What can people do to make sure their pets feel loved?
Cherish every moment you have with them. Pets don’t care about owning 100 things but they care about the time you spend with them.
