Designer Profile: Omobolanle Abibat Adesiyan / Qweenfecy

We’ve excited to annouce, we’re a media partner for Prototype, an all-inclusive art and fashion show that is happening this February. Here, we’re sharing designers that will be showcasing their collections at the event. Prototype’s art and fashion show will take place at the new $15 million cultural hub, The Niagara Falls Exchange, happening from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, February 24th, 2024. Funded in part by the city of Niagara Falls, the goal of the event is to reshape and rebrand culture in the Niagara region—showcasing a new wave of talent and energy in the city that transcends orthodox modes of approaching art, thinking and being. In short, Prototype is more akin to a manifesto with this as its thesis: Niagara is a cultural force to be reckoned with. Visit their website to purchase tickets to the event.

In the heartbeat of Africa, my designs pay homage to the vibrant tapestry of Nigerian culture. Rooted in personal narratives, each custom outfit becomes a powerful symbol of growth and triumph. Models wear these creations, representing their individual journeys—from escaping violence and forced marriages to overcoming persecution based on sexual orientation. These designs serve as visual narratives, reflecting the confident and vibrant individuals who have emerged from life’s challenges. Crafted in the image of the wearer, the garments empower models to authentically share their stories without the need for additional explanation. Qweenfecy is more than clothing; it’s a movement that celebrates identity, resilience, and the transformative power of self-expression. Through fashion, we invite the world to connect with diverse narratives, each stitch echoing the strength within and every silhouette a testament to the indomitable spirit thriving in the heart of Africa.

Tell us the story behind your brand/art.

The brand empowers individuals to freely express themselves, allowing them the liberty to showcase designs in a manner that aligns with their personal inclinations. This may encompass activities such as drumming, incorporating fire on the runway, or utilizing live mannequins. Each runway model narrates a unique and personal story, with distinctive walks and messages conveyed through their interpretation of the runway experience.

What’s one piece of advice you would give someone starting out in your field?

Don’t be like me, keep yearning for more. Don’t give up, there are going to be a lot of challenges you’re facing.Remember, yesterday’s price does not determine today’s value.

What does participating in PROTOTYPE mean to you?

A new experience and I would like to bond with my models in this new experience. I am keen to observe their performance in a different environment, distant from their usual surroundings.

What does 2024 hold for you?

It’s impossible to predict what 2024 holds, but we are diligently working on establishing a space where individuals can witness and experience Qweenfecy.
