We needed a change of scenery in these gloomy winter months, we had always wanted to check out the Elora area and when we came across The Ayrshire House when knew it was the perfect spot to check-in for some much needed R&R.
The Vibe
Inn or art gallery? The home itself is statuesque, The Ayrshire House is a gorgeous retreat but also a gallery. Currently showcasing local artists from “The Schoolhouse Arts Collective” which is a group of artists that work out of the Elora Centre of the Arts. Not only is there art on the walls, you will also see a beautiful bespoke piece of stained glass above one of the rooms doorways, which was handcrafted for the Ayrshire by local glass studio “Hanscomb Glass Studio” created by Neil Hanscomb himself.

Not only is the property impressive, but so is the hospitality. The owner, Teal Parkinson and her family are involved in every detail of the Inn from bookings to design. They run the day to day operations and it is evident their passion for their home away from home.

The Room
There is no doubt that The Ayrshire House delivers a comforting and inviting space for every guest. With its seven suites spread across two properties and a third coming this Spring you can hand select the room of your preference. From “Romantic and Nostalgic” to “Classic and Chic” there is something to satisfy most. The room we stayed in was The Robertson Suite, known to be sophisticated and light-filled. Our room had the modern amenities of Nespresso machines and SMART TV’s accompanied by comfortable beds and a stately fireplace. Being that The Ayrshire House is a nod to Scottish history and the birthplace of the founder of Elora, it is no surprise that it is full of old world charm, but with a modern twist “Vintage Fresh” as the owners like to call it.

The Neighbourhood
The Ayrshire House is located in the quaint town of Elora. Named “Ontario’s best small town Escape” in National Geographic and Destination Canada, it earns its title. From Hikes on their Limestone Cliffs, to exploring the Beautiful Elora Gorge there is no shortage of outdoor things to explore in the area.

The Ayrshire House is located within walking distance to adorable downtown Elora where you can explore the creative local shops and visit the well known Elora Mill for dinner or a spa treatment. There is also no shortage of food options nearby. Downtown Elora has everything from fine dining to local pubs. A short drive will also take you to historic Fergus where there is even more to be explored.
Depending on the time of year, you may also want to plan your trip around one of the many internationally acclaimed festivals and events that are hosted by Elora and Fergus each year. Check out what is going on during here visit here.

The Extras
Looking for something to add onto your stay? Beginning this spring, guests will be treated to a lovely breakfast for two at The Wild Tart restaurant, included as part of their stay! The team is available to add several packages to your stay – from in room treats to e-bike rentals. As well as to help plan your time exploring gorgeous Elora, with fabulous activities such as ice or rock climbing lessons, tubing or rafting the Grand River, swimming in the stunning Elora Quarry, and touring through the Village’s many art galleries.

The Verdict
We will definitely be back! The hospitality from Teal and warmth of the home made it a natural choice for our next trip to Elora. Fingers crossed this Spring or Summer!
