Tell Us About Yourself
Hi! I’m Niki. I am an artist working from my home studio in Carlisle, ON. I paint in both watercolour & oil and I feel so lucky to be able to do what I love – even after a day of painting for work, I still love to relax and paint for myself. I have two children who keep me very busy. I also love to cook!
Story Behind the Brand
have been painting my whole life as a hobby. I decided to attend University for art and graduated from Concordia University with a double major in Studio Art & Art History. I was lost, however, on how to find a job in the art world. I approached dozens of galleries, museums, arts centres, and received consistent nos. I started working in the financial industry because I just needed a job! I was so miserable. By this time I hadn’t picked up a paint brush in 4 years. I decided to start painting something every day as a New Year’s Resolution and I stuck with it. By the end of the year, I had 365 paintings and drawings. I hosted my own art show to display all the pieces. The response was so incredible that I felt confident enough to quit my job and do this full time. I am proud to say I have not looked back since!
I now fulfill custom painting commissions for clients, businesses, realtors, as well as distribute wholesale greeting cards & prints to stores across Canada and the US. I still make time to paint for myself!
What Inspires You?
Oh, it is so hard to pinpoint exactly what inspires me. Can I say everything? I feel like inspiration comes in the smallest moments and times when you least expect it. I am currently obsessed with painting clouds – many of which you will see in store at The Edit!
Favourite Summer Vacation Spot?
My husband’s job has us currently living between Carlisle and Nashville, TN. We spent this past summer in Nashville and it was so much fun. Otherwise, I don’t like travelling during the summer AT ALL! I much prefer to travel in off-seasons like Fall or Winter. I am lucky to have seen a lot of this amazing world. I am looking forward to our trip to Italy in a few weeks!
What Can We Expect in 2024?
Every year at NKFA, I host a sale of my original artwork in support of charity and that is something that won’t be changing anytime soon! The Original Sale will run this year from Nov 1-8th through my website. All original paintings, as well as prints and greeting cards are on sale. This year we will be supporting Feed Ontario with our donation. I am looking forward to another busy holiday season with commissions and wholesale! Excited for what 2025 will bring.
