#SummerFridays at 124 on Queen: The Last One

Welcome to the final review of #SummerFridays – a stay home travel series that will show you the best and the brightest that our province has to offer.

124 on Queen is a boutique style hotel in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake. With an expansion underway, the already incredible property is sure to be a must-stay location for future visits to wine country.

The Room

While the hotel has many rooms to choose from, we stayed in a beautiful villa in the Caroline House which faced onto the beautiful Victoria Street, just off of the main drag of the Downtown Area.

The Villas are perfect for families or larger groups looking for an expansive home base for their time in wine country. For us, that meant a girls trip with limited bed-sharing, with two full, private bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and living room area.

Though there are many lovely restaurants nearby (see: The Location) it was great to be able to bring our own food options and the ability to chill our wines purchased earlier in the day.

The Amenities

While most of the renovations are still in progress, they will soon have a full range of amenities right at your fingertips.

In the meantime, the lobby is housed in The Gate House, which serves as a lovely event space, as we witnessed during our time with a stunning engagement party taking place for a beautiful couple.

124 on Queen is also home to Treadwell, a restaurant known for piloting the farm to table movement in the area. With a beautiful patio and quaint indoor seating options, they are also able to host larger groups in their state-of-the-art wine cellar room, perfect for personal or professional events.

The Location

One of the major perks of 124 on Queen is the location which truly cannot be beat. No matter which wing of the building you are in, you are (with no exaggeration) just steps away from dining, shops and of course, the infamous Cows Ice Cream.

If you have been in the area before, you may know that most of the accommodation options in the downtown area are classic and dare I say, relatively outdated. Enter: 124 on Queen. The new option for those wanting to be in a walkable distance to restaurants and the picture-perfect Queen strip, while maintaining a clean, modern and upscale feel to the room.

The Expansion

Perhaps the best part of 124 on Queen is what is to come. They have been expanding their property since 2018, and though they have been delayed by COVID-19 protocols, they are nearing the finish line, with many new aspects to be opened by the end of the year. This will include a total of 70 guest rooms, a luxurious spa with two pools and an updated lobby with an attached Starbucks.

If you have previously stayed at this property, you may remember the buildings being separate. With the expansion, they have attached several of their buildings via the back of the lobby area to create a more seamless experience for their guests.

Final Thoughts

The staff are incredibly accommodating and the property is, although still in progress, absolutely stunning. I am quite literally counting down the days until I can experience 124 on Queen in its glory.

As an aside, I would like to give special mention to our wonderful tour guide, Pete, from Grape Escape Wine Tours. Though I have been on many wine tours before, this was by far my favourite, thanks to Pete.

Thanks for reading our final edition of #SummerFridays – see you next summer!
