The energy of the moon is a thing. That sleepless night, the full moon is likely shining bright. The moment you feel like calling in something new, hello new moon season. You have a need to plant garlic, that’d be a waning moon to ground you back into the roots of the Earth. The energy of the moon has been translated through centuries to invite us all to dive into its wisdom and learn a thing or two along the way. My grandparents turned to the lunar cycle when they planted and today, I lean into many of these practices to let. it. all. go.
As we tune into each phases uniqueness, we feel into the natural rhythm of life the way it was intended to be. I typically take to meditative practices during the New and Full Moon, so here are a few practices I lean into during these moon phases.
The New Moon
Planting seeds. This is the moon’s invitation for you to dream big. Take some time around the New Moon to journal, meditate and sit with what you wish to call in this lunar cycle. As with each moon, this is a time to sit back and remember what you’re came here to do. It’s a time to really think about what you wish to cultivate this month. Maybe it’s incorporating a morning walk to your day to talk to Spirit, or cultivating a new idea. This is the time for it all to pour through.
Full Moon
Emotions flow, the body feels the need to move, and let it all go. The Full Moon is a time of shedding the old to cultivate whatever is on the horizon. As you bloom during the Full Moon give yourself grace. Practices I lean into here are bonfire, dancing to physically release any lingering tension and doing a breathwork session to let it all go. A fan favourite in my household, howling at the moon when it’s at it’s brightest, it’s kind of fun to pretend your a kid again.
Take what you need, and let the rest go. With 12 (or 13) lunar cycles a year, tend to your body, mind and heart whichever way you see fit during the moment you’re in. There’s no need for perfection here, just a simple understanding that when we work with the energetics of the moon, magic happens.
