For the Meaningful Moments

For the little and most meaningful moments in our lives, we appreciate a company who values community. Today, we’re sharing the story of BCM Insurance and their granting program that provides support for local organizations making a difference. Our charity of choice, Pink Pearl Canada, received one of their grants for their walk, We Step Together, and we’re so overjoyed to see how small businesses truly make a huge impact.

Share a little about BCM and their grants.

BCM Insurance is a locally based mutual insurance company serving Niagara and Haldimand communities. Being a mutual means we’re focused on our policyholders and the communities we operate in. Our Community Grants Program is one of the ways we give back, supporting local organizations and initiatives that make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.

For someone reviewing their insurance for the first time, where should they start?

Start by having a conversation with an insurance advisor about what you need to protect. They’ll ask about things like your home or vehicle, your belongings, who lives in the household, and your individual circumstances. From there, they can explain the different coverage options, deductibles and limits in plain language. The most important thing is to ask questions and make sure you understand what you’re purchasing rather than simply choosing a policy based on price.

What concerns are clients bringing to you most often?

Affordability is definitely a major concern right now. People are seeing the cost of vehicles, building materials, labour and claims increase, which ultimately impacts insurance premiums as well. We’re also having more conversations around severe weather and water damage. Clients want to know whether they have the right coverage in place and what they can do to better protect themselves.

What should clients consider when deciding how much coverage they need?

It really comes down to understanding the potential financial impact if something goes wrong. For a home, for example, you need to consider the cost to rebuild rather than simply the market value of the property. Clients should also consider their belongings, liability exposure, deductibles and any higher-value items or unique risks they may have. There isn’t necessarily one right amount of coverage for everyone, which is why a conversation with an advisor is so important.

What sets BCM Insurance apart from others, and how does that benefit clients?

A big difference is that BCM is a mutual insurer and is deeply connected to the communities we serve. Decisions are made locally, our team understands the area, and we’re able to build genuine relationships with our policyholders. We’re not just focused on selling a policy; we want to provide the right coverage, strong service when it matters most, and continue investing back into the community.
