Montreal is our favourite Canadian city to visit to feel like we have left the country .. without the hassle of actually leaving the country. So when the opportunity came to visit Old Montreal and stay at the Hotel Place d’Armes. We raised our hand! Read all about our experience below.
The Vibe
Nestled in the heart of Old Montreal, Hôtel Place d’Armes stands as a beacon of luxury and sophistication, inviting travelers to experience the charm and history of one of Canada’s most enchanting cities. With its seamless blend of modern amenities and historic charm, this boutique hotel offers an unparalleled weekend getaway experience.
From the moment you step into the elegant lobby of Hôtel Place d’Armes, you are enveloped in an atmosphere of refined comfort. The warm and welcoming staff ensures a seamless check-in process and a personalized experience sets the stage for a weekend of indulgence and relaxation.
The Room
Hôtel Place d’Armes boasts a range of luxurious accommodations, from stylish rooms to spacious suites. The rooms blend contemporary elegance with Old World charm. We were lucky to stay in one of their Junior Suites where the high-quality linens, spacious sitting area and a spa like bathroom recreated the comfort of home.
The Neighbourhood
One of the major draws of a weekend at Hôtel Place d’Armes is its prime location in the heart of Old Montreal. Step outside the hotel, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene. Take a leisurely stroll to discover iconic landmarks such as Notre-Dame Basilica, Place Jacques-Cartier, and the Old Port.
Foodie?
You are in good company in this neighbourhood. We were lucky enough to score reservations at Chuck Hughes Garde Manger and grab some slices for lunch at Slice + Soda. But by far our favourite dining experience was at Modavie, the popular french Bistro that is known for their live music and take on classic french dishes. We were feeling adventurous and tried out their Normandy Sweet Bread, which was a huge hit! Also would recommend the scallops, mussels and any of their steak or lamb dishes. Our only regret is we didn’t have room left for a french onion soup.
Looking to stay in the hotel? Hôtel Place d’Armes also delivers on the culinary front with its acclaimed Brasserie 701. This vibrant and stylish restaurant, located within the hotel, showcases a menu that celebrates French and North American culinary traditions. They have a Sunday brunch that is not to be missed.
Our short stay didn’t allow us time to check out the hotels other well known food outpost, Kyo Bar Japonais, but it is on our list for the next visit!
The Spa
After a morning of wandering the streets of Old Montreal, we retreated to hotel’s Rainspa, to unwind and rejuvenate. We were indulged there in the Biologique Recherche Booster VIP 02 Facial. The facialist was extremely knowledgable, explaining that the Stimulant VIP O2 detoxifies and stimulates to re-oxygenate the skin tissue. I prefer a non invasive facial that leans more on the side of relaxation and it was just what the doctor ordered. Plus was I didn’t have to put makeup on for the rest of the day, my skin looked THAT good!
The Verdict
A weekend getaway at Hôtel Place d’Armes in Old Montreal is a truly enchanting experience. From the moment you arrive until the time you reluctantly bid farewell, the hotel’s commitment to luxury, personalized service, and its prime location make it an ideal choice for those seeking a memorable escape. Whether you’re a history buff, a food connoisseur, or simply in need of a relaxing retreat, Hôtel Place d’Armes offers a perfect blend of modern comfort and historic charm for an unforgettable weekend in Montreal.
