STYLE Canada Changemaker Dr. Lisa Barrett

Dr. Lisa Barrett is an assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology as well as the Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. She earned a bachelor’s degree, a medical degree, and a PhD at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has completed fellowships at Dalhousie University, the University of Toronto, and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Some of Dr. Lisa Barrett’s research interests include HCV treatment for vulnerable populations, the role of chronic viral infection in chronologic and immunologic aging and the modulation of the immune response to generate therapeutic and prophylactic vaccines in persistent viral infections. She was a contributing author to the 2016 Updated Canadian HIV/Hepatitis C Adult Guidelines for Management and Treatment.

She has been an advocate and voice for Canadians throughout COVID-19. She became one of Canada’s leading advocate for widespread access to rapid tests, and has provided sound professional medical advice in how we all feel safe and supported during the pandemic.
