7 Sustainable Spring Dresses To Inspire Your First Week Back Out On The Town

As the sun shines through our condo window panes and the birds chirp merrily to each other outside, spring announces its arrival. The season stands for new beginnings, and it’s never too early to warm up your wardrobe with some new dresses. Easy-breezy, flow-y, and flattering, what type of silhouette could be better for making your post-quarantine debut in than a cutesy frock?

Here’s seven sustainably-made spring dresses from some of Canada’s most forward-thinking brands.

1. Monday Blues

Pockets and slits that make it easier to ride your bike? And show off a little leg? The indigo colour of this linen number by Jennifer Glasgow is the cherry on top of such a practical yet beautiful dress for spring weather.

Klee Dress, $240 (CAD). Sizes: XS-XXL.

2.  Tuesday Tune-Up

Made from 100 per cent Egyptian cotton, this lightweight shirtdress is an elongated version of KOTN’s Essential Shirt. Fitted at the shoulders with a slight A-line shape, it’s versatile, button-up style is a must-have that can be worn open or closed with a removable belt.

Shirtdress, $70 (CAD). Sizes: 0-14.

3. Hump Day Cheer

Fun fact: Wednesday is the day of Mercury. And since it’s often associated with the colour green, we had to feature this Eliza Faulkner puff-sleeve dress as the antidote to a day of retrograde. The elasticized empire waist sits comfortably under the bust and falls into a voluminous skirt made from 100 per cent cotton. It has pockets too (!!).

Green Jolen Dress, $315 (CAD). Sizes: XS-L.

4. Golden Days Ahead

What better way to celebrate getting closer to the weekend than wearing a shade of yellow that’s brighter than the sun? The Genny‘s loose fit, pebbled cotton, and front patch pockets makes this design by Ursa Minor the ‘goldenrod’ of energy that everyone needs towards the end of the work week.

Genny dress, $242 (CAD). Sizes: XS-XL.

5. Flirty Friday

With ruffles in all the right places, Tamga DesignsSelina dress will take you from a Friday morning coffee date to an evening cocktail party – no problem. Sewn from micro Tencel, the Selina feels incredibly light and soft, and the dresses’ cap sleeves and adjustable back ties provide romantic details. It’s a win-win.

Selina Mini Dress, $145 (CAD). Sizes: XS-XXL.

6. Saturday Daydreams

Noémiah’s Celine Dress strikes the perfect balance between elegance and whimsy, with its smock-like structure and sheer silk organza fabric that reveals just the right amount of skin. Hand sewn to every customer’s measurements at no extra cost, the Celine Dress fits true to all. Bonus

Celine Dress, $410.74 (CAD). Sizes: Sewn to order.

7. Sunday Slow Down

Slow fashion, that is. The Sunday Bishop midi-dress from OhSevenDays is made from deadstock fabrics, a.k.a: fast fashion leftovers. The brand also designates the names of its designs to days of the week, hence this satin wrap dresses’ moniker. Of course we’ll wear this beautifully draped robe on Sundays!

Sunday Bishop dress, $267 (CAD). Sizes: S-L.
