The Vineyard Edit: A Celebration of Canadian Wine, Food, and Spring at Kew Vineyards

On a crisp spring morning, set against the picturesque backdrop of Kew Vineyards Estate Winery, we brought together a select group of tastemakers to experience the best of Canadian winemaking courtesy of Great Estates, paired seamlessly with a seasonal menu by local chefs at Terra Mia.

The Vineyard Edit was more than a luncheon—it was a celebration of Canadian culinary and winemaking excellence. Each pairing was carefully considered to highlight the synergy between locally produced wines and seasonal ingredients, demonstrating the depth and sophistication of Canada’s food and wine landscape.

With the stunning setting of Kew Vineyards, the expertise of Estate Manager AJ McLaughlin and the curated selection from Great Estates, the event captured the spirit of spring entertaining at its finest—elevated, inviting, and unmistakably Canadian.

Upon arrival guests were welcome with a glass of 2017 Kew Barrel Aged Blanc de Blancs, the tone was set for a refined yet relaxed gathering—one that celebrated craftsmanship, terroir, and the simple pleasure of sharing exceptional food and wine. See below for the selections.

The luncheon began with a tiered aperitivo selection, offering a variety of small bites that balanced richness, acidity, and texture from Mushroom Truffle Herbed Crostini to Citrus Poached Shrimp Salad with Fennel. This course was paired with the 2024 Jackson-Triggs Grand Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. This Sauvignon Blanc offered lively acidity with notes of citrus, green apple, and fresh herbs—perfectly complementing the diverse aperitivo selection. Its crisp profile enhanced the freshness of the seafood and cut through the richness of the burrata and crostini.

The main course showcased a beautifully composed dish of Housemade Bronze-Die Rigatoni with Slow-Roasted Cherry Tomato, Zucchini, and Chicken with Fresh Basil and was paired with 2023 Domaine Le Clos Jordanne Clos de Kew Pinot Noir. Elegant and expressive, this Pinot Noir delivered notes of red cherry, raspberry, and subtle spice, with silky tannins and a refined structure. Its acidity and fruit profile complemented the tomato-based sauce while harmonizing with the savoury elements of the dish.

Dessert offered a seasonal and refreshing finale with 2023 Inniskillin Riesling Icewine poured overtop a Vanilla Bean Gelato with Strawberry Rhubarb Compote. A quintessential Canadian dessert wine, this Riesling Icewine showcased luscious sweetness balanced by vibrant acidity. Notes of apricot, honey, and citrus made it a perfect partner to the tartness of the rhubarb and the creaminess of the gelato.

As guests departed, they left not only with a deeper appreciation for the wines showcased, but also with inspiration for their own seasonal gatherings—where thoughtful pairings and quality ingredients take center stage.
