How-To: Style Fall’s Biggest Hair Trends Into The Winter

Since masks have become an everyday accessory, there’s a new focus on eye makeup and of course, hair.

Face framing waves, increased volume, texturized tousles, and cheeky accessories are some of this season’s biggest hair trends, bringing all the attention to the mane.

And with the cold weather coming in hot, extra care is being given to dry, brittle ends that are the result of a summer spent in the pool.

So, if no one is going to see your pout out in public, why not take things to the next level with a new do?

To help you level up your locks, we asked Cindy Duplantis, celebrity hairstylist at Chatters Hair Salon, how to achieve fall’s biggest hair trends and style them throughout the winter.

AB: What’s unique about this fall’s most popular hairstyles?

CD: The ponytail is a hairstyle that’s in every season. The pony really means something different depending on where it’s placed on the head. If you think about it, a high pony can be super sporty or high fashion. Whereas a low sleek pony is a bit more business style. They’re just so classic, clean and they always work.

This season we’re loving the naturally textured ponytail, adding volume and encouraging us to embrace our hair’s texture. The perfect way to finish off this look is to set the sides of your pony in place with a product like MOROCCANOIL Luminous Hairspray in Strong and enhance the volume of your pony by applying the AG HAIR Dry Wax to the ends. Textured pony, is now the #TONY

Barely there waves is another look we’re loving for fall 2020. This is a look so many people can achieve because it’s so easy. Once you get out of the shower, apply a straightening or smoothing serum or cream with a heat protector. Then using a Wet Brush, you’re going to blow dry your hair in alternating motions, towards and away from the face to give more of a straight effect.

Lastly, glamour curls are here in a big way. Before we were wrapping the hair around the curling iron, whereas for glamour curls, we are placing the hair inside the tong of the curling iron and then wrapping it tightly around for a ribbon effect. This will help give the hair a smoother, more glamorous curl.

AB: We believe that hair colour is just as vital as makeup when it comes to maintaining a summer glow during the cooler months. How can we achieve this fall’s hair colour trends and enhance them?

CD: Money pieces (face framing highlights) are everything right now. It’s great for those who want that pop of colour or are looking to switch up their style, but aren’t ready to commit to a full head of colour. What I love is that there are ways to alter this look. You can go a few shades lighter using a smaller section of hair to achieve a subtle difference. Or, you can make a bold statement by going drastically lighter with a larger section of hair.

You can experiment with colour and make those money pieces pink, green, blue, whatever! You can also switch up your colour at home whenever the mood strikes, using our CELEB LUXURY Viral Colorwash & Colorditioner that lasts between three to 10 washes, making it super fun and non-committal. You can play off your eye colour too, which can really make them pop!

This year we’re seeing colours like deep teal and even denim blue coming out to play. If platinum blonde was your summer colour, we’re altering your shade by toning it with either a warm blonde or a cool blonde to give a more multi-dimensional look to transition your hair into fall/winter. If natural colours are more your thing, try using our CELEB LUXURY Gem Lites Colorwash & Colorditioner to help enhance and add richness to your natural tone. A few great colour options for this fall/winter are Sapphire, Cognac and Fire Opal.

AB: What’s kinds of hair accessories are trending?

CD: In terms of hair accessories, we’re still seeing scrunchies and even extra large scrunchies become super popular. Hair clips (or barrettes, if you will) are still trendy and can actually be used to secure your face mask to your head to relieve some of the pressure on your ears. We can’t forget trusty headbands either! They come in so many varieties but they’re also great for keeping your hair out of your face.

AB: What are some hair care products and tips for dealing with dryness due to the cold weather?

CD: If you’re suffering from dry scalp, you need a great exfoliant. One of my favorite products that just hit the shelves at Chatters is a must try – the ALTERNA My Hair My Canvas New Beginnings Exfoliating Cleanser.
