Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a self-taught designer who comes from a diverse marketing background. My family immigrated from Vietnam to Canada and growing up I was heavily influenced by my culture. I’ve always been crafty and in 2021 during the pandemic, I started crocheting as a hobby which led me to create my brand Hotpot Variety, which is a crochet and knitwear brand. I’m also very driven by entrepreneurship, fashion, and the arts which has naturally led me to where I am today and I am excited to share my very first collection ever at FAT this upcoming fall!

What inspires you?

My community really inspires me, especially because I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of everyone around me. I love constantly learning and collaborating with others. Since the community has been such an integral part of my growth, I hope to really create a strong sense of community through Hotpot Variety and also give back to my community by creating opportunities and inspiring others who resonate with my story.

Tell us the story behind your brand/ art.

Creating a brand has always been a goal of mine and when I learned how to crochet and started to create things that I wanted to share with others, that’s how Hotpot Variety was born. Since launching Hotpot Variety, it’s led me into a completely different direction I never thought I’d be in and I’m constantly learning new skills, especially in fashion design and running a business. Hotpot Variety truly is an extension of my inner child – my creativity is expressed through various textiles, colours and playful patterns. Every garment is also meticulously hand-crafted and made sustainably by myself and local women artisans.

What’s one piece of advice you would give someone starting out in your field?

Don’t feel intimidated and be prepared to be resilient! Don’t wait until things are perfect, if you have a passion for something just go for it.

What do you love most about FAT?

I love the community and representation that FAT brings together and the celebration behind our city’s art, fashion and culture.

What does 2025 hold for you?

I’m excited to launch my very first collection and see where it takes me! I’ll be focusing on sustainably growing my business and launching new designs. I would love to work and continuing collaborating with local artists and brands.
