#DishingIt: Cheap Eats in Mexico

This is #DishingIt, where we give you the inside scoop on whats new and downright finger lickin’ good in the culinary scene. On our recent trip to Tulum, Mexico we discovered some local food spots featuring twists on American classics and home cooked authentic food, any abuela would approve of. Whenever you’re in Tulum next, we highly recommend you checkout these spots!

A Twist On American Classics: Burgerito

Our first stop is Burgerito. Hands down, this is the best burger spot in the heart of Tulum town (and beyond). From the restaurants eccentric Tulum-like vibe to their epic breakfasts, we were obsessed with spending time dining here as the food is  a show stopper. From their smash burger to their loaded fries made with a garlic aioli and parmesan crisps Burgerito is a great place to have lunch or dinner with friends that certainly won’t break the bank. Here you’ll be enjoying good old fashion American classics in the heart of Mexico.

Clean Eats: Matcha Mama

If you’re looking for a healthier alternative, but still affordable, we highly recommend our favourite breakfast spot called Matcha Mama. At this lovely spot, any health-food lover will devour a fruit bowl in mere minutes. One of our favourite bowls was the Nutty Monkey, made with peanut butter, banana, chocolate protein, maca, and granola on top of some greek yogurt – it was simply delicious. And a fan favourite for second was the mango tango bowl made with tumeric, ginger and passion fruit, a sweet and tangy bowl where you felt the superpowers of ginger and tumeric working overtime. They also have a matcha cold brew (aka a matcha latte with cold brew coffee), that is simply the best!

Authentic Flavours: Chez Cocco

Last but not least we came across Chez Cocco in Tulum town. If you’re looking to experience authentic Mexican food and culture, this is the place for you! Chez Cocco is a family run business owned and operated by husband and wife duo Cocco and Diego. Each meal is prepared fresh by the owner Cocco herself, and with dishes like pollo en adobo to homemade empanadas, we never wanted to leave! Not only is the food wholesome and delicious, but the owners are hospitable and lovely to chat to. You might even spot their cute chihuahua Luna running around the property.
