Style Canada Collaborates with Destination Toronto to Spotlight Sustainable Brands at Soho House Chicago

This past season we were thrilled to partner with the team at Destination Toronto in traveling to Chicago to bring a spotlight to some of our favourite Toronto based brands. The one day event held at Soho House Chicago showcased Toronto talent from food to wellness to fashion and beyond. With the holidays coming up next week, its a perfect time to support your favourite local talent. Have a read through below and discover a new label from someone on your list!

Fashion Labels

Adam X Atelier
Adam X Atelier is a luxury womenswear label that combines eclectic and elegant designs. They use unique structured tailoring techniques and dramatic soft draping valuing craftsmanship and draws strong influences from east and west. Creative Director Adam X graduated from the University for the Creative Arts and trained under prestigious fashion houses in London, England, including Alexander McQueen and Temperley London.

Refaya Turshin
Refaya Turshin is a Bangladeshi born, Toronto-based fine artist, eco-friendly designer, and photographer whose work focuses on hybrid photography and combining other interdisciplinary to photography. In her practice; she experiments with mixed media/medium, which includes, Japanese silk, Dhaka handwoven muslin, organic cotton fabric, organic waste, natural dyes, recycled garments and materials, wood, etc.

Avery Swim
Avery Swim is an eco friendly swimwear brand that uses recycled ocean waste from ECONYL to create their suits from fishing nets, plastic water bottles + fabric scraps. Every bikini produced at Avery supports the ROLE Foundation – a zero waste facility that runs environmental development programs in Bali, Indonesia, where their suits are produced.

Dukiri Apparel
Founded by designer Daniel Ukiri, Dukiri Apparel is all about encouraging others to express themselves and share their creativity with others. It is a combination of an artist’s mind with the power of fashion.

Lucia Kinghorn
Lucia’s designs are original and digitally printed on silk, a process that uses less water than traditional printing methods, with waterbased inks that contain fewer volatile compounds than solvent or petroleum- based inks. The line uses 100% silk that is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 which ensures the fabric has been tested for and is free from, harmful substance

Kelly Henderson is the visionary behind House of Hendo. The brand is seasonless and genderless using converted goods in a sustainable manner. They focus on circular and upcycled fabrics and less newness and more thoughtfulness.

Amber Groen
Amber Groen is the women behind her namesake label. The brand focuses on one of a kind garments made from vintage textiles such as table cloths, deadstock fabrics and vintage bed linens.

Ashes
Ashes was created by designer Ash Bullock. Each textile garment has been loved and skillfully imagined through the mind & hands of surface dweller & lover, Ash. Limited in production to minimal or singular pieces that you can hold dear or continue to pass on through the years.
