Startup Fashion Week is Canada’s Most Exciting Fashion Event

Somewhere between a pitch deck and a pleat, Startup Fashion Week was born, and Canadian fashion hasn’t been the same since. While traditional fashion weeks guard their velvet ropes like crown jewels, SFW swings the doors wide open. Founded in 2014, this Toronto-born powerhouse has spent over a decade doing the unthinkable: making fashion actually fun, and fair.

The numbers alone tell a wild story. Fifteen fashion weeks. Three cities. Over 130 designers launched into the spotlight. More than 22,000 guests who showed up, leaned in, and left genuinely inspired. These aren’t legacy fashion houses with century-old pedigrees; these are hungry creatives with big ideas, sharp scissors, and something to prove.

But SFW isn’t just a runway, it’s a whole ecosystem. Panels, mentorship sessions, networking events, and tech integrations blur the line between fashion show and startup accelerator. Where else can you watch a stunning collection hit the catwalk, then turn around and hear the designer pitch their business model over cocktails?

The secret sauce? Community over competition. In an industry historically riddled with ego and exclusivity, SFW made collaboration the main character. BIPOC designers, LGBTQIA+ voices, Indigenous artists, newcomers, and differently-abled creatives all have a seat at this table, and a spot on this runway.
