Julia Samuel Talks About Grief, Healing and More

“You cannot avoid suffering. Grieving is part of life, it’s as part of life as joy. You know, love and loss are two sides of the same coin and we keep wanting to forget about it and ignore the loss but we can’t. If we do, we do it at our peril,” Julia Samuel told Elise Gasbarrino on this week’s episode of Let’s Talk About.

Julia Samuel is a leading Psychotherapist in the United Kingdom, and has successfully owned her own private practice for almost 30 years. She founded a bereavement service for children and has a best-selling novel, Grief Works.

Julia tells us about the grieving process and what would happen if people blocked off their emotions. She explains that healing isn’t weak but yet, a crucial and important part of the human experience.

The healing process after grief is unavoidable and if we do avoid it, there will be consequences and more suffering in the long run.

Her most recent book release is This Too Shall Pass, where she draws on hours of conversations with her own patients to demonstrate how we can strive and adapt after loss and suffering.
