Welcome to #CheckedIn, a travel series where we take you along to some of the trendiest and most unique hotel experiences around. Join us as we give you the 411 on all the ins and outs of these locations, what to expect and where you should ‘check-in’ next! The STYLE Canada team checked into Hollywood VOLUME in the middle of Hollywood’s Vinyl District and loved it’s central, cool, comfortable and — importantly — somewhere I’d actually want to hang out between meetings.
The Vibe

Hollywood VOLUME feels very LA, but in the right way. A little rock ’n’ roll, a little mid-century, a little desert, and decidedly more grown-up than the Hollywood hotels I remember.
The hotel originally opened in 2021 and was relaunched as Hollywood VOLUME in 2024 as part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio. The interiors by Studio Collective lean into warm, earthy tones, natural materials and mid-century details without feeling overly designed.
The Neighbourhood

You’re in the heart of Hollywood, just off Sunset, which makes VOLUME an easy jumping-off point if you’re bouncing around LA. The area itself is having a bit of a resurgence, with some new restaurants, nightlife and creative businesses coming back into this pocket of Hollywood.
The Rooms

The rooms are simple, warm and unfussy — hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows and lots of natural texture. Mine felt like exactly what I needed: comfortable, quiet and not overloaded with unnecessary hotel-room stuff. The floor-to-ceiling windows were a particularly nice touch because I had scenic views of the hills.
The Extras

KA’TEEN is VOLUME’s outdoor restaurant, led by LA chef Wes Avila and takes inspiration from the Yucatán Peninsula, interpreted through local ingredients and Avila’s own Angeleno perspective.
But honestly, you could go before knowing any of that and just fall for the setting. You enter through a tunnel and suddenly you’re surrounded by greenery, woven lights and this lush, almost Tulum-esque outdoor space that feels completely removed from Hollywood. The menu is made for sharing, with everything from ceviche and seafood to carne asada and cochinita pibil.
Then there’s Desert 5 Spot upstairs. Think 1970s Palm Springs meets Pioneertown. It could very easily tip into theme-bar territory, but somehow it works. The rooftop has live music, DJs, line dancing and Cowboy Karaoke depending on the night.
The Verdict
Hollywood VOLUME is the kind of hotel I’d recommend for a long weekend in LA when you want to feel like you’re actually in the city rather than tucked away from it.
