Welcome to #CheckedIn, a travel series where we take you along to some of the trendiest and most unique hotel experiences around. Join us as we give you the 411 on all the ins and outs of these locations, what to expect and where you should ‘check-in’ next!

This time of year we are on the lookout for local winter staycation destinations. On our radar for summer is obviously the beautiful Muskoka Lakes. So we figured, why not give it a try this season! Our travels took us to “checking in” to JW Marriott Rosseau Muskoka Resort + Spa. Read all about our visit below.

The Vibe

If the attributes of the JW Marriott Muskoka in the summer include great views, food and relaxation, you can count on a similar vibe all year long. We would just add in COZY! The JW Marriott Muskoka is strategically positioned on the shores of Lake Rosseau, providing guests with stunning panoramic views of the snow-covered landscape. Surrounded by dense forests and pristine lakes, the resort offers a picture-perfect setting for a winter retreat. Waking up to the sight of glistening snowflakes and enjoying a hot cup of cocoa while overlooking the frozen lake – an experience that epitomizes the beauty of winter in Muskoka.

The Room

The resort boasts a range of upscale accommodations, from warm guest rooms to expansive suites with private balconies. Each room is meticulously designed to offer a blend of rustic charm and modern luxury, with plush furnishings, fireplaces, and breathtaking views. We stayed in one of their suites, highly recommend checking this out for a longer stay where you will want to make use of the kitchen amenities. It was spacious and comfortable.

The Extras

One of the JW Marriott Muskoka doesn’t just embrace winter; it celebrates it with a plethora of activities for guests of all ages. From snowshoeing through the resort’s private trails to ice skating on the frozen lake, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the crisp winter air. The resort also offers equipment rentals, ensuring that guests can fully immerse themselves in the winter experience, whether it’s gliding across the ice or exploring the snow-covered forests.

For those seeking a more laid-back experience (yes please!), the Hydrospa at JW Marriott Muskoka provides a haven of relaxation. This was one of our favourite aspects of the resort. The view, additional amenities (hello salt room!) and calming morning massage were all reasons to come back. In the summer it looks even better with access to a private pool area and stunning view. There is also a year round indoor pool for us off season visitors.

The Food + Drink

Winter at JW Marriott Muskoka is not just about outdoor adventures; it’s also an opportunity to savor exquisite culinary creations. The resort’s restaurants feature seasonal menus that showcase the best of Muskoka’s local ingredients. We were able to try Muskoka Chophouse and Teca “Simply Italian” while staying on property, both of which we would recommend. Just double check hours of operation during your stay as some food outposts are closed for the season.

If you are looking for more of a cocktails + lighter fare option, check out the Ice Bar. A -15°C Ice Bar where you can experience signature flights of Crystal Head Vodka. Fitting for this time of year!

The Verdict

Visiting the JW Marriott Muskoka in winter is not just a retreat; it’s a luxurious escape into a world of snow-covered splendor and unmatched hospitality. From the scenic beauty surrounding the resort to the array of winter activities and the cozy accommodations, every aspect of the experience is designed to create lasting memories. We will be back whether it is winter, spring, summer or fall!
