Beker Fashions Celebrates a Century in Fashion

Beker Fashions, a leader in Canadian luxury fashion, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023. To honor this remarkable milestone, the company is hosting “A Century in Fashion,” a cocktail soiree and fashion show that brings together past and present industry partners, including designers, artists, suppliers, and retailers, who have contributed to the company’s success. The event will feature an archive design exhibit that pays homage to the extraordinary creative talent of the many notable designers who have helped shape Beker Fashion’s rich history.

The runway show will be brought to life with a range of stunning designs that are both classic and contemporary, featuring past styles as well as highlights from the most recent collections. The highly anticipated celebration will take place at the Shangri-La Toronto, on Sunday, June 4th, 2023, and promises to be an unforgettable night of fashion, history, and celebration.

History of Beker Fashions

Beker Fashions was founded in 1923 by the late Sam Kaiman, who immigrated to Canada from Poland at the age of 16 to provide for his family back home. Sam honed his cutting and sewing skills while working in Toronto’s Fashion District on Spadina. The company started modestly, producing outfits with an early understanding of size inclusivity. Dresses and suits were designed with a flattering fit in mind for different body types while still offering a high-fashion look. This philosophy is still engrained in the company’s DNA today.

In 1952, Sam’s daughter, Simmie, married Abby Beker, a Holocaust survivor from Lithuania. Abby joined the company, a born leader and salesperson who dressed to impress, wearing a suit and tie to the office every day. His passion for the business helped Beker Fashions not only survive but thrive. Today, Beker Fashions is a fourth-generation family-run enterprise, which continues to expand under the leadership of Ron Beker and his daughter, Kelly Beker, the company’s Chief Brand Officer.

The family has always placed an importance on transparency and maintaining close relationships with customers and suppliers. As a leader in event dressing for the North American market, the house of luxury brands can be found in exclusive boutiques throughout North America and Mexico. The brands currently include FRASCARA, AUDREY + BROOKS, and WAYNE CLARK, all locally designed and manufactured in Toronto, with an emphasis on exceptional quality, unparalleled artisanship, slow fashion, luxury fabrics, custom orders, and ethical production.
