Backstage at FAT’s Fashion Week: Top 5 Hair Looks

Fashion Art Toronto’s Creative Hair Director Lisa Tuff has been building and training a growing team of 23+ Hairstylists over the past 8 years, and has just recently brought on 3 new Key Hairstylists to broaden the level of diversity and creative perspectives within her team. These are the top 5 hair looks that she and her team have designed and executed backstage at Fashion Art Toronto this past season, all created using the one and only R+Co’s renowned styling products.

Hair Looks by Lisa

Lisa is all about energy. She starts her team off in the morning with an energetic ritual to breathe,  set intentions, stretch and set the tone for the day – implementing wellness into the long days working backstage. This season, she gave her new keys everything she has in what she’s learned from her previous 17 years of experience, sharing how to tap into the energy of the collections to design the most cohesive and balanced silhouettes.

LOOK #1: ANNAFORA

In this first look featuring designer ANNAFORA, Lisa Tuff designed a Desert Cobra-like silhouette, pairing the hairpieces with the models’ natural hair color to complement the organic Ethiopian fabrics. She also added some additional braiding at the back to embrace the majestic essence that is infused within the collection. The final product can be found on Annafora’s Instagram.

LOOK #2: KYLE GERVACY

The next look was for the designer KYLE GERVACY’s collection. Lisa created handmade, avant-garde hair pieces, birthing a modern rendition of the Japanese Samurai hairstyles. True to the roots of the early warriors, this method embraced the shaved head and tightly formed silhouettes to merge with the strength and energy of  the collection. Kyle’s work can be viewed here.

LOOK #3: BRANDON KEIR

This look was designed by hairstylist Maddy Mathon, a staple artist with over 5 years experience on the Fashion Art Toronto hair team under her belt. Maddy embraced creative freedom by bringing hair tattoos to the runway for BRANDON KEIR with an edgy, genderless gothic edge, all by using R+Co’s Motorcycle gel. The finished product for the collection “Nightshift”  can be found on Brandon’s website and Instagram.

LOOK #4: 3NDOLITH INC.

Our next featured hair look is by Deandra Wells, an immensely creative Indigenous hairstylist of 15 years. She created this style for the designer group 3NDOLITH INC., encompassing the vibe of a fearless and untamed warrior.  The woven detail in the back represents the trials of their lineage, as well as triumph and unapologetic authenticity. Her model Tlisa Lee perfectly embodies this, just like the brand as a whole and creators themselves. 3NDOLITH’s collection can be seen on their Instagram.

Our last highlighted look is created by visionary hair artist Dylan Cruikshank for the label POISON CONTROL. Dylan has an immense wellspring of creativity and has their finger on the pulse of the city in regards to fashion. They merged this double mohawk with a pointed fringe inspired by Jerry Only, the lead singer of legendary band The Misfits, creating a modern dichotomy of  90’s punk silhouettes and subcultures. The final product can be found on their Instagram page.
