Why I Fell in Love with Juicing (and Why You Might Too)

There’s something really powerful about discovering a ritual that makes you feel better – clearer, more energized, more connected to your body.

For me, that’s juicing.

My name is Angela Osborne, and I’m the Co-Founder of The Atelier Collective – a women’s business conference and education outlet, author of Dramatically Zen, and consultant for the wellness brand, Nama, working on programming, events, and education. Nama is rooted in the belief that there is real, life-changing power in plants. Through beautifully designed, intuitive kitchen tools, they make it simple to enjoy fresh juices, smoothies, and plant milks at home — bringing more fruits and vegetables into your everyday life in a way that actually feels doable and SO delicious.

Through that work, I’ve found myself deep in the world of juicing… and what started as curiosity quickly turned into a full-on obsession. Because once you understand what’s actually happening in your body AND feel the difference, everything clicks.

I’ve always been passionate about creating experiences that leave people feeling inspired, energized, and ready to shift something in their lives. And in a really beautiful way, juicing has become an extension of that: a daily ritual that supports how you feel, how you show up, and how you move through your day.

So let me tell you a little more about this game-changing habit!

Juicing vs. Blending: What’s the Difference?

One of the most common questions I get is: “Can I just make this in a blender?”

And the answer is: yes, but it’s a totally different experience.

Juicing extracts the liquid from fruits and vegetables, removing most of the insoluble fibre (a.k.a the pulp). What you’re left with is a smooth, nutrient-dense drink that’s incredibly easy for your body to absorb.

Blending, on the other hand, keeps everything intact — fibre and all — which means the consistency is much thicker. If you’ve ever tried blending something like celery or kale, you’ll know it becomes more of a dense, pulpy smoothie rather than a light, drinkable juice.

Think of it like this: juicing does some of the work for your body.

Because the fibre has been reduced, your body doesn’t have to spend as much energy breaking everything down, which means nutrients (like vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients) can be absorbed more efficiently into your bloodstream.

This is why many people describe juicing as:

  • energizing
  • supportive for digestion
  • a way to “flood the body with nutrients”

There’s also research showing that juices can offer higher bioavailability of certain plant compounds, meaning your body can access and use them more readily.

Blending, on the other hand, creates a thicker, more filling smoothie that:

  • supports satiety (feeling full longer)
  • feeds the gut microbiome with fibre
  • allows you to add things like protein, healthy fats, and superfoods

Both are incredible, but they serve different purposes. Sometimes you want something light and absorbable, and other times you want something more grounding and sustaining.

As for my juicer, I use the Nama J2, a hands-free cold-press juicer that slowly extracts juice from whole ingredients, making the process simple, efficient, and surprisingly easy to fit into everyday life.

Why Juicing Is So Powerful

At its core, juicing is one of the simplest ways to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Cause let’s be honest – most of us aren’t getting nearly enough!

But beyond that, it can support:

  • Energy + Vitality – A quick, natural source of fuel your body can actually use
  • Digestion + Gut Support – Gentle on the digestive system while still supporting elimination
  • Hydration – Especially with ingredients like cucumber, celery, and watermelon
  • Skin + Glow – High levels of antioxidants support skin health from the inside out
  • Mental Clarity – Many people notice improved focus and reduced brain fog
  • Daily Reset Ritual – A simple way to check in with yourself and nourish your body intentionally. As I’ve said, this has become one of my favourite wellness rituals!

“But What About Sugar?”

This is probably the biggest concern I hear! Yes, some juices (especially fruit-heavy ones) can spike blood sugar. But this is where a simple principle comes in and something we use often with Nama:

The 80/20 Rule

80% vegetables

20% fruit

This keeps your juice:

  • nutrient-dense
  • balanced
  • supportive of stable energy

If you’re new to juicing, though, start where you are. A 50/50 blend is a great way to ease in and build your taste for more vegetable-forward juices over time.

Beginner Juice Ideas (Tried + Loved)

Here are a few of my go-to blends:

Beets by Drey (named after my son) – Beets, oranges, carrots, ginger. This supports circulation, energy, and post-workout recovery.

Keaton’s Jungle Juice (named after my middle son haha)  – Spinach, pineapple, cucumber, apple, mint, ginger. This juice is hydrating, refreshing, and great for digestion

Simple Starter Juice – Apple, carrot, ginger. This one is sweet, grounding, and perfect if you’re just getting started

A Note on Seasonal + Local

One of the most beautiful parts of juicing is how connected it makes you feel to what’s in season.

When you source produce locally:

  • it tastes better
  • it’s more nutrient-dense
  • it supports local farms and community

There’s something really special about tasting produce at its peak – you can just feel the difference.

How I Use Juicing in My Life

For me, juicing isn’t a “health thing”, but instead it’s just become part of my day because I love how it makes me feel. Here’s a few ways I integrate juice into my day-to-day!

Before a run – I’ll make a blend with beets for circulation and endurance

After hot yoga – I love watermelon + cucumber + a pinch of sea salt, which is a natural electrolyte reset (basically nature’s Gatorade, without the processed sugar)

Daily green juice – any blend involving lots of greens (spinach, celery etc) to get that dose of green goodness and makes me feel so healthy!

Come Experience It For Yourself

If you’ve been curious about juicing, this is your sign to try it.

We’re hosting a Wellness Pop-Up on Saturday, May 9th in Jordan Village, where we’ll be bringing this experience to life with:

  • Yoga classes integrated with juice
  • A juice bar featuring fresh, cold-pressed blends
  • A chance to explore, taste, and feel the benefits for yourself

It’s designed to be approachable, inspiring, and something you can actually take into your everyday life. Because sometimes the smallest shifts can create the biggest ripple effects.
