Fashion Art Toronto Turns 20: A Month-Long Celebration of Style, Community & Canadian Creativity

This spring, the city’s most anticipated cultural celebration is more than just a fashion week—it’s a movement. Fashion Art Toronto (FAT) is ringing in 20 years of boundary-breaking fashion, art, and inclusivity with a bold month-long series of events that transform Toronto into a living, breathing runway.

Launching in May 2025, FAT’s milestone anniversary isn’t just marking two decades of design—it’s reaffirming its legacy as Canada’s most dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking fashion platform. From immersive runway shows and surprise street-style spectacles to retail pop-ups and community-centered conversations, this year’s programming is both a tribute to the past and a bold step into the future.

“Our mission has always been about more than style—it’s about creating space for expression, connection, and cultural transformation,” says Vanja Vasic, Founder and Executive Director of Fashion Art Toronto.

A Celebration of Canadian Creativity

What began as a grassroots, alternative fashion showcase in 2005 has grown into a city-wide phenomenon that now includes over 40 designers, immersive art installations, panel discussions, and partnerships with some of Toronto’s most iconic venues and districts.

Anchoring the month is the Spring/Summer 2025 edition of 1664 Fashion Week, running May 29–June 1 at T3 Bayside. This four-day fashion marathon will feature collections from Canadian design powerhouses such as Lesley Hampton, Mario Fugnitto, L’Uomo Strano, and NARCES, alongside emerging talent like Sam Sun, Dunne Cliff, and uneKSpected, recipients of FAT’s FASHN DISRPTR Award.

Expect more than just fashion—think large-scale art installations, curated pop-up boutiques, interactive lounges, and a glamorous red carpet backed by the Fashion and Entertainment Council of Canada (FECC).

Fashion in Every Corner of the City

Fashion Art Toronto is taking over the city with a full calendar of events:

  • May 8–11: FAT returns to Artist Project at the Better Living Centre with an opening-night runway show by Lunara, and a boutique pop-up featuring 11 local designers.

  • May 15: A top-secret guerrilla-style runway show will be revealed day-of on FAT’s social platforms—a nod to the early days of pop-up fashion.

  • May 23: FAT headlines The Bentway’s Sun/Shade Opening Night Party with a high-energy outdoor show featuring labels like Indoor Cat and Hot Pot Variety.

  • May 24: The 20-Year Anniversary and Fashion Week Opening Party takes over the Distillery District, complete with a retrospective runway show and a live performance by Roney X.

In solidarity with local creatives, FAT is also launching a Shop Canadian Campaign from May 25–28, offering limited-edition drops, retail panels, and exclusive discounts at stores like U3, Gotstyle, Kowli, and Toronto Designers Market.

Runway Meets Cultural Retrospective

At T3 Bayside, the fashion week grounds will also host a 20-Year Retrospective multimedia installation chronicling FAT’s evolution through video, photography, and styled mannequins—offering visitors a deeper dive into the history and heart of the platform.

And the beloved Fashion & Beauty Boutique returns, showcasing over 25 Canadian brands, from Ahiri Clothing and MizDragonfly to Monte & Coe and Tox Latex.

Good Taste with a Twist

The 2025 season is once again powered by Kronenbourg 1664, the official beer of fashion week. With immersive brand activations, photo studios, and accessory showcases in collaboration with LIGNES DE FUITE, this partnership perfectly echoes FAT’s mantra: style should always come with a twist.

“Our community is the true heartbeat of Fashion Art Toronto,” says Vasic. “Over the years we’ve seen our audience transform from spectators into active participants—showing up season after season, dressing boldly, and bringing their full selves to the event.”

Whether you’re a fashion insider, local creative, or someone who just wants to feel inspired, Fashion Art Toronto’s 20th Anniversary offers an unmissable invitation: come celebrate Canadian fashion at its most innovative, inclusive, and expressive.
